Government guidelines suggest the following guidelines for our daily calorie intake: Men: 2500 calories per day Woman: 2000 Children: 1800 We know this stuff, right? Right. But what are we actually burning each day? I mean, really? Take me for example – I have just had my results back following a private health screening whereby I had my own personal metabolic biometrics assessed. Now, I am pretty fit these days. and because I workout 3-5 times per week I have a higher than average muscle mass for a woman. Aside from my workouts or set aside exercise, I…

One of the best, most revolutionary things I’ve learned from the book Playing Big by Tara Morh, is how to access my own inner mentor. Last week I touched on how Tara says we need to dial down our inner critic. And once we have done that, we should start to dial up our inner mentor. Firstly, discovering that I personally even had a mentor was was pretty cool, but being able to use “her” for ongoing stuff and direction is even better. Does that sound bonkers to you? I’m sure it probably does, but seriously, it works. The principle of…

In answer to the question above – mine is very competitive. But I like that, Its fun that way. We are competitive when we are playing with the children – I like to really smash him at  badminton during our annual summer tournament in France (That’s another give away to our competitive spirit: we call everything a ‘tournament’) We are competitive with cooking and other domestic tasks. (No. I’M BETTER AT CLEANING A BATHROOM) and, we have been known to have the odd physical rufty-tufty. I like to show him that this girl can pack a punch (when the children…

I recently read an amazing book which has quite literally changed the way I think. Its kind of, ‘re-wired’ me. Its called Playing Big by Tara Morh, and I seriously recommend reading it. One of the first important lessons it teaches in chapter 1, is to first find your own Inner Critic. We all have one. Your own personal voice of self-doubt. A voice which, if left unchecked, can actually serve to hold you back; in some folk, it can actually wind-up being super destructive. If your inner critic is particularly harsh, then it can make you feel quite miserable…

I recently watched The Gambler on Sky Box Office. John Goodman says the following to Mark Wahlberg : {Mark Wahlberg’s character is a compulsive Gambler By the way, but stick with me here as I think this is relevant to everyone} “You get up two and a half million dollars, any asshole in the world knows what to do: you get a house with a 25 year roof, an indestructible Jap-economy shitbox, you put the rest into the system at three to five percent to pay your taxes and that’s your base, get me? That’s your fortress of fucking solitude.…

Back in January of this year, I started to dabble in Instagram. I know, I know – a little late to the party, perhaps! As a keen ‘TAMER’ (Tracy Anderson Method partaker) I joined in with the New Year TAM Instagram contest. All I had to do was post a daily Instagram pic of myself doing my TAM workout (gulp!) to be in for a chance to win a free annual subscription to Tracy’s live streaming classes, as well as a free ‘Vitality week’ pass (A week of classes with the lady herself, together with workshops, talks, healthy food, Amazing Aspen…

Well, I did it. I survived. (it was hit and miss for a bit there, though!) I may have cheated a tiny bit. Maybe once or twice. Ok three times in total, but you know what? I’m really glad I did it and plan to carry it forward. Having read about a super inspiring food plan in Red Magazine this month, devised by the nutritionists at Grayshott spa no less, to fully nourish and rest the body’s digestive system, I decided to give it a try. I had got to that stage in my diet where my once…

This post is prompted by a wonderful post I read a while back by Mr & Mrs T Plus 3 which set the old thinking wheels in motion. It’s also a little bit triggererd by the post I wrote yesterday about parent blogging. Whilst this site isn’t meant to be dominated by parenting stuff, I guess its a pretty natural and easy subject for me to touch upon. I put ‘According to me’ in the title, simply because it is, according to me. I am not the parenting oracle or anything, but I can happily let my fingers type up…

“Honest parent blogging” – is it always useful and helpful to read? Or is it just a cheap shot at our offsprings expense dressed up as brilliant writing? This is the question I’ve just been pondering in the shower. Let me explain … For years now, I have been following some pretty amazing parent bloggers. Bloggers who have an amazing literary ability to highlight all aspects of parenting; the great times, the funny bits (a few rude bits thrown in for good measure) and a sprinkling of the darker times too. It’s those bloggers who, whilst immersing themselves in the beauty…
